Tokyo Olympics: 24-year-old Lovlina is a fan of Mohammad Ali, a newspaper changed her life

Indian women’s boxer Lovlina Borgohain has made a strong start in the Tokyo Olympics. He has won his first match. Lovlina Borgohain defeated Germany’s Apetz Nedin 3-2 in the welterweight round of 16 (64-69kg category) on Tuesday. With this win, Lovlina has made it to the last eight. He is just one victory away from the medal.

Lovlina Borgohain is just 24 years old. He has traveled from a small village in Assam to the Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain hails from Baromukhiya, a small village in Sarupathar Vidhan Sabha, which falls in Golaghat district of Assam. His village has a population of only 2 thousand.

Two-time World Championship medalist, Lovlina is the first boxer from Assam to qualify for the Olympics. 1.77m tall Lovlina Borgohain is competing in the 69kg category at the Tokyo Olympics.

News of mohammed ali changed life

At the age of 13, Lovlina and her twin sisters (Leecha and Lima) were sent to learn kick boxing. Both sisters reached the national level in kick boxing. But in the meantime, Lovlina had changed the game and entered the boxing ring. Lovlina’s mother Mamoni Borgohain says that during her schooling time, she used to participate in every sporting activity.

Telling an anecdote from childhood, Mamoni Borgohain said, ‘Once Lovlina’s father brought sweets for her. Lovlina started reading the newspaper in which the sweets were wrapped. Then for the first time Lovlina read about Mohammad Ali and then her interest in boxing grew.

It was only when Lovlina was in class 9 that a coach of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) caught sight of her. Since then she has continued to advance in boxing. She is a fan of Muhammad Ali as well as Mike Tyson.
