Maharashtra: Zika virus threat in 79 villages of Pune, health department on alert

After the threat of corona virus in Maharashtra, now the threat of Zika virus is also looming. The administration has been on alert mode ever since the first case of Zika virus was reported in Pune district. The district administration has expressed the possibility of Zika virus knock in 79 villages. The Health Department has made preparations for emergency services in these villages.

Actually the first patient of Zika virus was found in Belsar village of Pune. The health department of Maharashtra became alert only after the first case came to light. The DM of Pune district called a meeting with the officials, after which all the gram panchayats and local administration were alerted. All these villages are susceptible to Zika virus infection.

Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has also released the list of these villages. There are diseases like Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya. This is the reason why District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh said that those villages in the district which have been continuously affected by Dengue and Chikungunya in the last three years should be considered susceptible to Zika infection.

Health department and district administration on alert

If diseases like dengue and chikungunya are found in 79 villages of Pune district, then they will be considered vulnerable to Zika. If dengue and chikungunya patients come to the fore in the villages declared vulnerable, then their blood samples will be taken, which will be tested for Zika infection. At the gram panchayat level, the district administration has directed the taluka administration and the health department to implement the measures immediately.

How does the Zika virus spread?

Zika virus is spread by Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes spread dengue and chikungunya. Such mosquitoes are found in large numbers all over the country along with Maharashtra. These mosquitoes can spread the Zika virus. For this, preventive measures need to be implemented effectively. The district administration and health department will together emphasize on integrated pest management.

What is the administration’s advice?

If symptoms of dengue, chikungunya are found in a person, then immediate investigation will be done. There is an appeal of the district administration to take special care of cleanliness in such places where mosquitoes can breed. Guppy fish should be released in water bodies. Collective efforts should be started to drive away mosquitoes.
