Fully vaccinated? You don’t need mandatory Covid testing to enter this state

India has beaten its own best performance of June 21st to create a new world record in terms of the highest vaccination done in a single day. The health ministry data released this morning says that India vaccinated 88.13 lakh people in the last 24 hours. This makes August 16 numbers the highest ever that India has seen since the mass vaccination against the coronavirus began on January 16 this year. With this world record, India’s cumulative vaccine coverage has reached 55.47 crore doses.
There is another good news in terms of daily caseload. India on Tuesday reported 25,166 fresh Covid-19 infections. This is the lowest number of new cases in a single day in the last 154 days, the government data says. The number of active cases has also gone down to 3,69,846. This is the lowest number of active cases in the last 146 days. The recovery rate has surged to 97.51 per cent, the highest that India has ever seen. The number of daily recoveries was more than the new cases showing some relief in the transmission rate of the virus. However, the Covid deaths saw a marginal increase to 437 today.

As we look at the possibilities of third-wave cases, here are the latest Covid updates from India and across the world.

Altogether 11 per cent of the eligible population in Assam has so far received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine, state Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said on Tuesday. He claimed that there was adequate stock of vaccines in the state and urged the people to come forward for their jab. Addressing a press conference here, Mahanta said, “As on date, 1.18 crore people have received their first dose of vaccine, while 25.21 lakh have taken their second dose also.” In terms of percentage, 51 per cent have taken the first dose and 11 per cent have received both the doses, he added. The minister had earlier informed the state Assembly that of the 3.50 crore projected population of the state, about 2.37 crore are above 18 years of age, making them eligible for the vaccine. Mahanta further said about 2.50 lakh to 3 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses were being administered daily in the state now.

The Assam government on Tuesday exempted fully vaccinated incoming people carrying the latest COVID-19 negative report from mandatory testing for the virus on arrival in the state. The order will come into immediate effect, but the exemption will not be applicable for symptomatic passengers, a notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare department said.
