Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) traders’ wing leader Mariyur Ramdas Ganesh and his brother Mariyur Ramdas Swaminathan have been accused of fraud of 600 crores. In Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, posters of both ‘Helicopters Brothers’ are pasted everywhere. People have demanded action against these two brothers. Police have registered a case.
The ‘Helicopters Brothers’ natives of Tiruvarur, had settled in Kumbakonam six years ago and were running a dairy business. Both these brothers had started a financial entity named Victory Finance and in 2019 registered an aviation company named Arjun Aviation Pvt Ltd. Both of them also got people to invest in the name of doubling their money.
Though the brothers kept their promise faithfully, things got worse with the Covid pandemic. When the people who invested in the scheme asked for their money, the brothers did not return the money. Zafarullah and Fairaj Bano, a couple who had invested in the company, filed a complaint with Thanjavur SP Deshmukh Shekhar Sanjay.
The couple had claimed that they had deposited Rs 15 crore in a financial entity owned by the brothers. The couple never got their money back and were allegedly threatened by the brothers. Govindraj, who gave Rs 25 lakh to both the brothers under the scheme, said, “I had given Rs 25 lakh by taking loan from friends and family.”
Another investor ACN Rajan said, ‘I mortgaged my daughter’s jewelry and got 10 lakhs and borrowed Rs 40 lakhs from friends and gave Rs 50 lakhs to brothers in one year plan, along with interest I also lost my principal amount. Granted, I request the government to take action and help us to get the money back.
Mariyur Ramdas Ganesh rained flowers from a helicopter during his child’s first birthday in 2019. Since then they are known as Helicopter Brothers. Thanjavur District Crime Branch has registered an FIR against two brothers and two others under sections 406, 420 and 120 (b) of IPC for cheating, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
The police have so far arrested a person believed to be the manager of the brother’s company. At present both the brothers are absconding. After the controversy, the BJP has removed Ganesh. Thanjavur (North) BJP leader N Satheesh Kumar had issued a statement on 18 July saying that Ganesh has been removed from his post.
