Drone attack on Saudi Arabia airport, 8 injured, plane also damaged

There has been a drone attack on an airport in Saudi Arabia, in which 8 people were seriously injured, while a passenger plane has also been damaged. Saudi Arabia’s airport has now been targeted during the ongoing war against Houthi rebels in Yemen, according to Saudi Arabia’s official media. There is a war going on in Yemen between the Houthi rebels and the Saudi Arabian army.

According to news agency AP, no party has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. This is the second time in the last 24 hours that such an attack has taken place. However, when the airport was first targeted, no rebel group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting Iran-backed Shiite rebels in Yemen did not elaborate on the attack. Nor has any clear information about casualties been given. The army has just said that the security forces had stopped the explosive drone.

Saudi is fighting a war with Houthi rebels

Since 2015, Yemen’s Houthi rebels battling a Saudi-led military coalition have targeted military installations within Saudi Arabia. International airports are also targeted by the rebels. At the same time, they are also targeting and attacking important oil plants of the state.

What is the reason for the conflict in Yemen?

Yemen has been facing civil war for a long time. The Houthi rebels captured Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, then they ruled most parts of the country. Abedrabbu Mansour Hadi, the then President of Yemen, had to flee the country because of the ruckus. Saudi Arabia is in support of Mansoor Hadi and is fighting a war against the Houthis.
