The BJP has announced an eight-member team led by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take charge of next year’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Dharmendra Pradhan has been appointed in-charge for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and seven co-in-charges have been made with him. The BJP has tried to work out the caste and political equation through the electoral team.
Dharmendra Pradhan, who comes from the OBC community, has been entrusted with the command of UP elections, while Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Saroj Pandey, Shobha Karandlaje, Captain Abhimanyu, Annapurna Devi and Vivek Thakur have also been appointed with him. BJP has taken full care of the caste equation of the state in the formation of the team for the UP elections.
The OBC community has the largest population in UP, who play an important role in the politics of the state. JP Nadda has made Dharmendra Pradhan, who comes from the OBC community, the UP election in-charge, to keep the most populous Backward and Other Backward Classes in UP, who have come to the BJP’s side since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Dharmendra Pradhan, while in charge in the states of Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand, had worked to connect a large section of OBCs with the party.
This card of BJP is being considered to neutralize the bets of Samajwadi Party which is trying to pull backwards in UP. OBCs have played an important role in BJP’s return to power in UP in 2017 after 15 years and now in 2022, the responsibility of saving OBCs with the party will be on the shoulders of Dharmendra Pradhan. Dharmendra Pradhan has commanded the elections in Uttarakhand in 2017 along with JP Nadda. His strategy was considered important behind the return of BJP to power. Pradhan has been instrumental in helping BJP win elections in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Now his examination is to be held in the 2022 elections of UP.
Attention of caste equation in the appointments of in-charges
The responsibility of removing the displeasure of Brahmins in UP will now be on the shoulders of Saroj Pandey. Saroj Pandey is considered a sharp leader of BJP and comes from Chhattisgarh. She has been handling the work of organization in BJP for a long time. From SP to BSP, they are working to cultivate Brahmins in UP and are calling BJP anti-Brahmin. In such a situation, BJP has tried to give a big message to the Brahmin community through Saroj Pandey. However, the Modi government has also included Ajay Mishra from UP as a minister in its cabinet in the past.
The work of cultivating Bhumihars in UP will be on the shoulders of Rajya Sabha member Vivek Thakur, son of veteran Bihar leader CP Thakur. The Bhumihar community may be two per cent in UP, but there are significant numbers in Varanasi, Ghazipur, Mau, Ballia, Azamgarh and Jaunpur. This Purvanchal area is adjacent to Bihar. In such a situation, Vivek Thakur can play an important role for BJP among the Bhumihars of UP.
Although Bhumihar is currently considered the traditional voter of BJP in UP, but at present there is no big leader of Bhumihars. Manoj Sinha has become the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, in whose active politics he is no longer there. In such a situation, BJP introduced former officer AK Sharma in UP politics, but due to Yogi not giving him a place in his cabinet, he could not make any significant impact. In such a situation, it is believed that BJP has given a message to the Bhumihars through Vivek Thakur.
Jat leader also imposed
Due to the farmers’ movement, the equation of BJP in West UP is getting disturbed. The Jat community, who joined the BJP after the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, is now seen standing against it due to the farmers’ agitation. In such a situation, BJP has appointed former Haryana minister and Captain Abhimanyu, who comes from Jat community, as co-in-charge of UP elections to keep the Jat community with the BJP. There is also a relationship and kinship of Captain Abhimanyu in the adjoining West UP of Haryana. In such a situation, the BJP has now played a gamble to remove the anger of the Jat through them.
BJP’s eyes on the responsibility of Yadav’s women leader
In Uttar Pradesh, the SP’s core vote bank is on the Yadav community, for which the party has appointed Annapurna Devi, who comes from the Yadav community, as co-incharge in the UP elections. There is about 10 percent Yadav voters in UP, which is considered to be a strong vote bank of the SP. The BJP may have targeted non-Yadav OBCs in the last election, but this time it is eyeing the most backward votes as well as the Yadav votes. BJP state president Swatantra Dev Singh had said in the program of Aaj Tak that we are constantly trying to connect the Yadav community with the party and soon a big convention will also be held in UP for the Yadav community.
In the politics of UP, 22 percent Dalit voters have all the power to make and spoil the political game of any party. Since Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre, the BJP has gained a strong hold among non-Jatav Dalits. In such a situation, BJP has made Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal as co-incharge to further strengthen its political base among Dalits, who himself also comes from the Dalit society of Rajasthan. The border of Rajasthan is with the Brij region of western UP, where Dalit society is in large numbers.
