The Maoist killed in Dantewada district has been identified as Santosh Markam, a member of the Malangir Area Committee of Naxalites.
Raipur: A Naxal was killed in an encounter with security forces in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, who was wanted in about 25 criminal cases and a reward of Rs 5 lakh was declared on him.
Police sources said that the encounter took place at around 12.30 pm in a forest in Poredem. During the anti-Naxal operation, the Naxalites started firing on the team of District Reserve Group (DRG), after which the security forces retaliated. He said that after this the Naxalites fled from the spot taking advantage of the dense forest. This forest is located about 400 km from Raipur.
Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav said, “During the search of the area, the security personnel recovered the body of a Naxal, a pistol and other daily use material from his possession. The slain Maoist has been identified as Santosh Markam, a member of the Malangir Area Committee of Naxalites. A cash reward of Rs 5 lakh was declared on his head. He told that about 25 criminal cases were registered against the slain Naxalites in Aranpur police station.
