A third wave of Covid has been feared in Maharashtra after a few weeks. It has been said that children can be adversely affected in this wave. Keeping this in mind, BMC Commissioner IS Chahal and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburban) Suresh Kakani had directed to conduct sero survey of children during the second wave itself.
This sero survey was done from April 1, 2021 to June 15, 2021. The blood samples were made available from the samples that came to the labs for various medical tests. A total of 2,176 blood samples were collected from pathology labs in 24 wards of Mumbai. This includes 1,283 from BMC’s Aapli Medical network and Nair Hospital and 893 from the network of two private labs.
In this survey, it was mainly found that more than 50 percent of the child population of the city has already been infected with the corona virus. The overall sero positivity rate is 51.18 percent, including 47.03% from the private sector and 54.36% from the public sector. At the same time, sero positivity is highest among those in the age group of 10-14 years, which is 53.43 percent.
At the same time, the sero-positivity rate of 1 to 4 years is 51.04%, 5 to 9 years 47.33%, 10 to 14 years of age 53.43%, 15 to 18 years 51.39%. Also, the overall positivity rate from 1 to 18 years is 51.18%.
It is to be known that Maharashtra has been one of the states most affected by the corona virus epidemic. During the second wave of Corona, more than 60 thousand daily cases have been found in the state. However, now this number has come down to about 10 thousand.
