Srinagar: Three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists have been neutralised in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. “Three unidentified terrorists affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit JeM have been killed. Search is going on,” the police said.
The gunfight broke out in the upper reaches of the forest area of Nagbaeran Tral, Awantipora, after a joint team of the police and the army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire.
The exchange of fire is underway. This is the third encounter between terrorists and security personnel in August this year.
This comes a day after a Junior Commissioned Officer of the Army died in a fierce gunfight with militants in Rajouri district. A terrorist was killed in that encounter.
“A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Rashtriya Rifles had suffered bullet injuries in the encounter. He was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but succumbed to the injuries,” Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Jammu, Lt. Col Devender Anand said.
On August 6, two LeT terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Thanamandi belt.
